Opening Day

Well, not exactly. But close. It has become a tradition in my family that we must drive over Going to the Sun Highway in Glacier National Park as soon as possible after it opens for the season. Preferably tailgating the last snowplow. This year it opened on a Thursday, so we were a couple of days late.

I'm fresh out of wit and humor this morning, so I'll let you just enjoy the sights.

No zoom required. He was standing on the road. And the road ain't very wide. If you look close, you'll see that beyond the curb there is nothing for about a hundred feet down.

Gorgeous! Think I might get a little nervous driving along that road, though.

Thanks for the quick trip. My room mate made the trip once from West to East and refuses to go again. I told her to look up, not over and down. Too bad she was on the wrong side of the car. It is a beautiful drive.

That road makes me very nervous. Something about those chunks that have been swept off by avalanches and patched up. I prefer to be the driver, whenever possible. It's a control thing.

Also, Elmer, I avoid going West to East, for the exact same reason. Being in the outside lane on the west side sort of freaks me out, especially if I'm on the passenger side.

I love the Going To The Sun road. Are you telling me they JUST opened this road for the year? When?

Hubby is itching to get back to Glacier. We loved it.

Cyndi: GTTS Highway opened on June 24th, which is the earliest is has opened in several years. The earliest date I ever remember driving over it was June 7th, a year when we had record low snowfall and serious water shortages later in the summer. Snow on the mountaintops = water in the rivers.

Ok. I've never been to Glacier National Park, but I think I need to go! And I'm certain the photo of the big horn sheep is how my billy goat views himself.
