Montana for Real - Greatest Hits Posts

Time for a little sordid truth. Yes, I used to post new humor pieces regularly on this blog. And no, this is not the case any more. That is because:

 A. I signed a book deal with a tight publication schedule that keeps my nose pressed firmly to the grindstone and,

B. My pieces now appear in several newspapers and one national publication, and it is not in my best financial interests to post things here for free when there are people crazy enough to pay me to write them.

For those who'd like to explore the good old days, though, I've compiled a list of favorites--both mine and the fans of my print column--reaching clear back to the beginning of Montana for Real, when my then-agent Janet Reid said, "You need a blog." And I said, "Yes, ma'am" because that's what a wise client does when Janet speaks. I didn't know what else to do with it, so I just starting writing about the daily ridiculousness of dealing with horses and cattle, of rodeos and dogs and life in general. Here are a few of the best.

Ranch Life

The Will to Die (the most popular post of all time)

Family Humor

Rodeo

Hangin' Out (both the horse and one of the scenes from The Long Ride Home were inspired by this one.)

Feel free to wander through the archives on your own, there are plenty of other good stories in there. Watch your step, there are badger holes and cow pies galore. And you are bound to stumble across posts that are one huge block of text with no paragraph breaks. No, this is not some strange artistic affectation.

Let me just say, when you're fooling around in the Blogger dashboard trying to get your page to look a certain way, under no circumstances should you click the button that says, "Remove all formatting."
